Jungle

There is ironically and sadly, only one positive side effect to the raping of the earth for these minerals. This would be the inadvertent preservation of the Congo River basin’s jungle. See the thing is, the minerals are so lucrative that they simply bypass the plentiful jungles of this region. It is far easier and more profitable to go after the minerals, and thus the jungles have largely been left in tact.

The day before, we drove out into the jungle to the most remote health facility that can be reached by road. The jungle spread out in front of us like a blanket, with folds of mountains layering the horizon. Incredible. Every time I come to Congo I am fortunate enough to go a bit further and see a bit more.
