Passing through Stuttgart

There is something about Europe that is so wonderful. I feel so fortunate to have lived in Finland for a year in high school as a Rotary Exchange Student to really get the full flavor of it. Every time I’m back, if only briefly, I’m captured by its style and sensibility.

Street cars gliding along. Staircases nestled in the woods. Fields of wildflowers and blissfully green trees en route from the airport. Stuttgart is a fabulous little city.

Even better is European hospitality. My colleague and I are staying at some friends of hers that she’s worked with in Africa and the Middle East, and now they find themselves in an incredible apartment (if you can call the four bedroom flat that!) in Stuttgart.

Last night I enjoyed one of the most incredible meals I’ve had in a long time. At this time of year, the delicacy is white asparagus. Topped with Hollandaise sauce, new potatoes, and a petite fillet mignon, you can’t really get better than that.

Now off to business meetings for the day. Hoping not to freeze too badly today. All my suits are for Africa. So I’ll be suffering in sandals.

Cheers,

Miel

You’re in Stuttgart AND you get an incredible meal? Not fair.

I love sandals and flip flops so much than when my feet are confined in tennis shoes or clogs even, I find it almost unbearable…

‘Drea – Despite the cold, I was eternally greatful for my stopover in Europe. Not only was it great to be in Europe, it seems we may have been able to make some connections to get some funding for much needed activities in Africa. A win, win.

Many of the moms at Finn’s school are obsessed with Finland as an educational model. Apparently they have the highest literacy rate in the world and are the oldest to learn to read. His school believes in not rushing kids to learn before they are ready. Anyway, that’s my Finland reference of the moment. 🙂

Mel – Finland definitely had a great education model. I was amazed with the level of education there. I’ve always loved Finn’s name. Very cool.

    You are a great mom!
