Africa Photos

Since I wasn’t able to get up many photos with connectivity as it is in Africa, I wanted to share my full album from my latest trip, as well as some of the best of.

Playing with baby lions was fun, right up to the point…

where the baby lion bit me on the breast!

Zebras! Yeah cool! Still waiting to see giraffes!

Chameleons are pretty darn cool looking, but people in Zimbabwe are superstitious about them. This was at the Snake World, where we learned how long each snake would take to kill you. Tour went something like this: this snake here will take two days to kill you, this one four hour, oh, and this one you are dead in under ten minutes. Oh joy! I don’t think the guides get paid enough for that one. Oh, and by the way, there is no anti-venom.
The rock formations, these were just outside of Harare, were incredible. There were tons of them and I was in as much awe over them as the wildlife. They remind me of being with Australian Aborigines, where there was a similar formation that had a story of it being a man and a woman kissing. Marveling at it, my friend remarked that, “they really are people”, and the aboriginal elder we were with replied, without a beat, “and we really are rocks”.

Yikes, kind of ticklish!
This was one of my favorite experiences in Zimbabwe. We visited a woman with her bio-sand filter. This is basically a low cost method, using local resources, to provide safe drinking water to an extended family for 7-10 years. Now if we can only provide water for the whole world. These are bikes that we gave to our community health workers as they begin to prepare for Cholera season in Zimbabwe.

A bridge on the way to a hospital assessment in Liberia. Nice to get out of the car for a moment. Crazy when a day of driving for eight hours seems like a relatively easy one!Very from the balcony in the apartment in Monrovia. The ocean is just below the treeline. No running water, electricity, and cold bucket baths, but nice to have the ocean nearby.

Fabulous boab trees in Zimbabwe! Beautiful drive.

After a long day of shopping, this vendor stole my heart with how sweet she was. She even managed to get me to buy the batik in her hand, though I’m still to determine who the lucky winner is, or if I’ll keep it for myself. She was worth the experience. I sent her an email yesterday with the photo as well.

Cheers,

Miel

    Re: the baby lion, ouch.

Cool zebra pic and I don’t know what it is about bicycles but I love pictures of them.

The comment from *Rabiya* is too funny.

Drea – Yes, baby lion was painful, no two ways about it.

Perhaps I should have included captions now that I think of it. The bikes were given out to our community health workers.

    Cheers,

    Miel
