Afghan Christmas Chorus

Holidays are always full of surprises in other countries. The best part is sharing holiday traditions with folks who have only heard about some things through the movies.

We managed to come across a place with candy canes about a week or so ago. We brought these into the office yesterday and walked around to each office spreading joy and candy canes. Watching their faces as I handed over the Christmas candies was very fun. Most of them looked very excited and then very puzzled at the same time. The were relieved when I explained that it was a candy to eat; but make sure to remove the plastic first!

Then in the last office with a crowd of folks they started asking about Christmas songs. In the end we gathered at least a dozen folks and taught them Jingle Bells. (Which we learned recently at quiz night was originally written for Thanksgiving!) We surprised our Chief of Party (the big boss at the office) with the best Afghan Christmas Chorus we had ever heard.

Great fun!

Enjoy your holidays!
